Description
A. J. Bennett—Historic Latta Plantation—Huntersville NC
Photographer Robert Clay hosted a living history workshop at Historic Latta Plantation just about the time that I was gaining interest in 18th-century photography. A. J. Bennett and two other reenactors were also there to pose so we could learn techniques from Robert. I was there with about eight other photographers. I moved around the group until I found a composition that I liked first then waited for A.J. Bennett to shoot his flintlock before firing off my camera. I've removed the objects that were in the photo that are from this modern-day era. Even at the reenactments I've attended in the last year, the reenactors start putting away their technological devices when they see photographers coming because they want a realistic period photograph taken and I have had more welcome taking non-posed pictures of strangers there than I ever had with street photography.
